Offline Registration

We generally prefer that gamers use the online registration option to reserve their spot at MinerLAN. However, cash and check payments may be arranged by contacting Zach Zeman or by speaking with us at a general meeting. Keep in mind, though, that registration may fill up in the time it takes to get you registered through this process. Please contact an officer if you have any problems.

Tournaments

Rules and prizes listed here are considered tentative and subject to change up to the time of the event.

Team Fortress II

Prizes

Top 3 Players: $50 Amazon Gift Cards
Lesser Players: The prizes are surprises

Rules

Players will compete in several rounds of play with randomly chosen teams across a small variety of popular maps and game modes. Player stats will be tracked across the rounds and, at the end of the tournament, top players will be chosen based on several different criteria to receive prizes.

DotA

Prizes

1st Place: 3 x $50 Amazon Gift Cards
2nd Place: 3 x $30 Amazon Gift Cards

Rules

3v3 normal mode tournament with a 1-2-2-1 league pick style and rules similar to league rules, with a few exceptions. Full rule text here (pdf). Contact Tom White with any questions.

Armagetron

Prizes

Prizes TBA (but trust me, they're good)

Rules

This will be a knockout tournament, like in past MinerLANs. Players will be randomly divided into several preliminary rounds. Lowest scoring players will be knocked out of the tournament, with the top players moving on to later rounds. Placement in the final round will determine prizes.

Ad-hoc Tournaments

Depending on time and interest of players, we may host several smaller gaming tournaments, including console games, with less substantial prizes. These will be announced at the event.

F.A.Q.

What's going to be played at the LAN?

In addition to the tournament games there will be plenty of opportunities to get together with us and form non-price bearing tournaments or just set up a small game between players at the LAN.

Why should I register? Why can't I just show up?

Because there is a limited number of spots. Due to size of the room and power constraints we have a hard cap on the LAN. Spots are limited and no walkins are allowed. Just take three seconds and register before it sells out.

What else is going to be going on at the LAN?

Who knows? Game videos, graphics showcases, movies, music, etc. You know, the usual LAN party stuff. On that note, if you have something you'd like us to display on the BIG screen display, bring it!

Where can I park?

Behind the Computer Science building or at the Havener parking lot (see map)

What should I bring?

  • Computer
  • One monitor only (no bigger than 30")
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Favorite mousing surface
  • Ethernet card (10/100)
  • 20ft patch cable
  • Power cords (and if you're smart, an outlet strip)
  • Headphones (powered speakers are not allowed)
  • All of your games
  • All of your driver disks or hardware information for when your computer has cryptic problems -- especially if you are using some obscure hardware RAID configuration.
  • Good attitude

Other tips?

Sign into Steam before arriving, and allow offline login. Previously, we have had intermittent problems while attempting to log into Steam.
